About

Profile   Picture of 2 Old Bedford Buses.

The founder of Brisbane Bus Lines, the late Mr Bill Mitchell, commenced operating public transport buses in Toowoomba during the mid 1940's.  In the early 1950's he moved to Brisbane and operated Tamborine Bus Service between the Gold Coast hinterland and Brisbane as well as running extensive charter activities under the "Charter Coaches" name.

In 1965, the name of Brisbane Bus Lines emerged and the profile of the company started to change with school routes in the Pine Rivers Shire being acquired.  In the late 60's the extensive charter activities were sold off, and the focus was on expansion of school services and the development of urban passenger services.

From that time until the present, the company has expanded into many areas, and has evolved from seven vehicles to a company with a fleet of sixty-five vehicles and more than 90 employees covering 2.6 million kilometers per annum.  The range of work which the company now performs includes:

  • school services
  • urban passenger services
  • local, intrastate and Australia wide charter services
  • local, intrastate and Australia wide tour services
  • intrastate country express services

The employees operate from depots located at Enoggera, Samford and Dayboro and an office at The Brisbane Transit Centre.

In the 1980's a major expansion took place with the opening of a large office, workshop and vehicle parking facility at Enoggera to replace a very cramped depot at Milton.

The Enoggera Depot has every facility required to operate a modern, up-to-date Bus and Coach Operation.  The company's main office is on site, together with Staff Training Facilities, Workshop, Panel Shop, Stores, etc.

The Company is managed by an effective team of Managers under the control of the two Directors and a General Manager.

Each Section is under the day-to-day control of a Divisional Manager who reports daily to the General Manager.  The management team have regular internal meetings to ensure all of the company's activities are coordinated.

The Management Meetings involve development and implementation of company policy, operation and expansion, together with resolving day-to-day problems and issues requiring joint resolutions.

Other staff members are invited to attend these meetings as required to discuss and resolve any matters relevant to their involvement.

The company prides itself on its team effort to achieve the best results possible to maintain and expand the services and vehicles operated and to enhance its position within the Bus and Coach Industry.
